Oakleaf lettuce

Here is a photo of an oakleaf green lettuce just taken out of my floating raft Aquaponics system.
Weight is 428 g including roots.
Industry minimum standard is supposed to be minimum 235 g
Next time you are in one of those fresh veggie places just get a hydro grown lettuce and take it to the scales and weigh it. You will be surprised just how little value you are getting.
I have weighed them as light as 125 g

Oakleaf lettuce are an open leaf type which are just great to grow and eat. I have grown this lettuce out in my Aquaponics floating raft system, so when it is harvested it comes roots and all. This is good because I can take the lettuce up to the house and if I stand the lettuce in a bowl with the roots in water, the lettuce will remain fresh for about 10 days.
In fact it will continue to grow.....The water it is standing in needs to be changed daily.
Living lettuce !!!
This method allows me to take leaves from around the outside as required, for individual salads. There is no waste whatsoever making this style of lettuce and the growing method very economical and convenient.
Cannot be fresher than that.
